Filmmaker Abhinav Kashyap, who directed the 2010 blockbuster Dabangg, has launched a scathing attack on actor Salman Khan and his family. In a recent interview with Screen, Kashyap described Salman as a “gunda (goon), badtameez (ill-mannered), ganda insaan (bad person)” and claimed that the star is not serious about acting.

Kashyap alleged that Salman has not shown interest in performance for more than two decades. “For 25 years he has not been focused on acting. He treats appearing on set as doing a favour. His concern is not the craft but the influence he holds as a celebrity,” the filmmaker said.

The director further accused Salman of being uninvolved in the creative process of Dabangg. “I was not aware before working on the film, but Salman does not invest in acting. He enjoys the power of his name, not the work,” Kashyap remarked.

Kashyap also criticised the Khan family, calling them “vindictive.” According to him, the family uses its industry standing to control decisions. “They have been part of Bollywood for over 50 years. They built and continue the star system. If someone resists, they retaliate,” he said.

Dabangg, starring Salman Khan, Sonakshi Sinha, Sonu Sood, Arbaaz Khan, and others, became one of the biggest releases of 2010. The film was produced by Arbaaz Khan and Malaika Arora, along with Dhilin Mehta. Its sequels, Dabangg 2 (2012) and Dabangg 3 (2019), were later directed by Arbaaz Khan and Prabhu Deva respectively.

After Dabangg, Abhinav Kashyap directed Besharam (2013), featuring Ranbir Kapoor. He has also directed TV serials such as Darr, Ssshhhh Koi Hai, Siddhant, and Dil Kya Chahta Hai. As an actor, he has appeared in films including Paanch, Yuva, and Wig.

Salman Khan was last seen in AR Murugadoss’ Sikandar alongside Rashmika Mandanna. His next film, Battle of Galwan, directed by Apoorva Lakhia, is based on the 2020 Galwan Valley clashes where he portrays an Indian Army officer. He continues to host Bigg Boss 19.
